DE-TENSE

De-Tense is our name for an herbal tonic advised in reading 4288-1. Although it appears as a recommendation for a single individual, similar cleansing and balancing formulas can be found in hundreds of readings.

Case 4288 was a woman having difficulty with what Cayce described as "improper elimination" and its effect on "the functioning of other organs throughout the system." This was regarded as a functional or reflex condition, which could be easily relieved through internal cleansing.

Cayce's commentary was as follows:

"To give full balance to the system and make the body efficient in its physical force, we would take this into the system:

To one gallon of rain or distilled water we would add:
Sarsaparilla Root. . . . . . . . . 2 ounces
Wild Cherry Bark. . . . . . . . . 2 ounces,
Burdock Root. . . . . . . . . . . 2 ounces,
Mandrake Root. . . . . . . . . . 10 grains,
Buchu Leaves. . . . . . . . . . . 20 grains,

This is to produce elimination through the kidneys and carry functioning through the system to relieve through the dross, see. This would be simmered, NOT BOILED, until reduced to one quart. Strain. While warm, add: 6 ounces Grain Alcohol, with 2 drams Balsam of Tolu.

The dose would be a teaspoonful after each meal and just before retiring. Do that. We are through."

This all-herbal formula was clearly intended to accomplish several purposes at the same time. Sarsaparilla root aids both digestion and elimination. Wild cherry bark revitalizes the lungs, throat and bronchial area. Burdock root is a European herb traditionally used for skin soothing and internal cleansing. Mandrake stimulates the liver, colon and glands. Buchu leaves are used to promote normal urinary tract conditions. These herbs work together to bring natural relief of tension caused by an overtaxed system.
